Yo soy, I am, first and foremost a mix, una mezcla. As an Irish Puertoricana Cuban women who climbs trees and loves power tools I am a mutt in the nicest sense of the word. My personality, beliefs and interests all touch various edges of the range which is evident in my creations. Art, mine mostly painting, should encompass all forms and I strive to diversify my mediums as I have diversified my life.
I grew up in Montclair New Jersey, a beautiful town with well maintained parks, gardens and citizens blended with neglected homes, polluted streams, struggling businesses and families off to the wrong start. My playground was always New York City. I explored each street like a new galaxy and every smell as a chance to breathe deeply, sometimes regrettably. My oasis was Central Park, with all its lush greens or untouched ice, quite paths, aromatic gardens, and lakes scattered with birds. My appreciation for contrast began in a very literal sense.
I left New Jersey to pursue an education in Southern Florida where I received a Bachelors in Fine Arts from the University of Miami. My concentration was completed in painting while my passion developed for sculptural forms in ceramic and glass. After sunbathing and art making came to an end I moved to Anchorage Alaska, where I happily (because it is summer when I'm writing this) reside to this day. My goal is to experience the vastness of our country and explore wilderness like I've never had at my backdoor before. My creative desire is to integrate my strengths with my weaknesses to achieve well balanced intriguing works of art.
