Brenda's work investigates the texture of social relationships, landscape and myth through sculpture, painting and poetry. Recent installations have focused on family secrets and the concept of democracy. She enjoys working in a variety of media including found objects, bronze, burlap, rocks, photography and paint.
She graduated with honors from the University of Alaska, Anchorage in 2004 with BFA and went on to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. She has also attended an art residency at the Vermont Studio Center.
Her sculpture, Fecundity, is published in Calyx A Journal of Art and Literature by Women, Volume 22 no. 3. You can view recent small paintings at Virtu Gallery. Upcoming exhibitions include Objects of Curiosity at the Bunnell Street Gallery (Homer) in April and the IGCA Guest Room in May of 2008. She lives in a quiet downtown neighborhood in Anchorage and maintains a studio in the back of the International Gallery.
